I began my counseling practice as a natural extension of my self-expression. I often found myself being a compassionate listener or confidant to others and very often received feedback that my presence or suggestions had been helpful. I spent the years between 2001 and 2004 in a deep exploration of consciousness and non-dual spirituality and I began to do formal counseling work in 2008. I started my practice at Common Ground Wellness Center in NE Portland, focusing mostly on presence and consciousness work. As time went on, I began to intently study human characterology, emotion and somatics (body-centered psychology), incorporating them into my work with consciousness.
I am currently in a 3-year training in Core Energetics with Ken Goldberg at NW Pathworks. I expand my knowledge and experience as a counselor through regular study, workshops and supervision with an experienced local therapist. I also consider my own therapy and inner work as a key element in assisting others in their work.
I do not have a formal education in counseling or psychology, nor am I a state-licensed counselor. In Oregon, certain healing and wellness practices are allowed by law without the need for licensing. The law that applies to my work is in Section 9 of Oregon House Bill 2506, which states:
''The licensing requirements of ORS 675.715 to 675.835 do not apply to a person who is engaged in the sole
practice of alternative forms of mental or emotional therapy or counseling, such as mind-body intervention,
integrated energy therapies or process therapy.''
If working with a licensed counselor is important to you, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to refer you to one.
